PRESCHOOL ACTIVITY: The Very Busy Spider! Make your own web and spider!

So we randomly checked out the hardcover book, “The Very Busy Spider.”  And the warmer weather put me in major activity mood!

So here is an easy craft you could do with your toddler or preschooler. And you can use any items you may have on hand!  There is also a shading activity you can do with this book as well!

Supplies You Need:

  • Paper Plate
  • Yarn, String, whatever you have on hand to make the web
  • The Very Busy Spider book ( borrow from Library if you do not have!)
  • Pipe Cleaners( cut the length you want for spider legs)
  • Something squishy for the body ( Pom Poms, something like that!) I used a magic noodle its all we had!
  • Googly Eyes
  1. Start first by reading the book to your child.
  2. Cut slits in paper plate at the top for your string to slide through.

I find it very helpful when I have everything available to my 3.5 year old. So I cut slits around the plate for the string to slide through. I also had an example done for her, she loves to look at one already done so she can do it by herself!

So once your child has their web to their liking with whatever you provide for the silk.

3.Start making your spider! Riley really enjoyed this saying I’m the busy spider mommy!

4. Put your googly eyes on.

5.Attach pipe cleaners and bend for the shape of your spiders legs.

We put our googgly eyes on the front and stuck the pipe cleaners right into the magic noodles. I helped her shape the legs a bit to be more like a spider. I probably could have cut them smaller, but hey you gotta move kinda fast when you have a 1.5 year old trying to get into everthing 😉

We glued the spiders legs with Elmers glue to the plate!

We also than took a white piece of computer paper that was cut in half from my coupons ( haha) and she used a crayon to shade over the spider web at the end of the book! She really enjoyed that too. I use all my weird left over pieces of paper from cutting coupons for the kids to use!

Than we decided to cover a couple suckers with a tissue. Use the same string we used for the web and used a black marker to make the Ghosts face.

I saw that on Pinterest the sucker ghosts and than after we made them, I stopped for a second and was like, Please don’t ask me what a Ghost is? She didn’t she said cute but didn’t really care too much about that! Ha. I just wanted those suckers gone before they get more candy this Friday! Riley really enjoyed this activity and we hope you do too!

* In case you are wondering or have a second child of your own by 1.5 year old was on the floor sorting these little bead things. I can’t even think of what they are called but you use them on a mold and put in the over! We did this so much as kids! i buy these little kits for $0.50 at the end of summer clearance at Michael’s anyways. It kept her occupied.
