Thank you so much for checking out this blog! I am really praying that I can help you save just a bit of cash! Welcome to my top 10 things you need for saving money in your household! This is part 1 of a 10 week series I will write on.
WEEK 1 of my series: Coupons Making Cents
When I first started to get into trying to use coupons I was a skeptic. The show EXTREME Couponing was just getting popular and I was SHOCKED at the amount of things people were buying but even more so on the amount of MONEY they were saving.
I said oh its T.V. it is not REAL! And well truth be told there are many parts on that show that are not real… But the fact of stockpiling and using coupons really does save you lots of money and brings your total way down..
When you first start out it is overwhelming and takes…… time…..practice… things many of us do not have in todays society..
Iif you are reading this you’re already realizing that maybe there is something to using coupons.
So yes you may be thinking that $0.50 off coupon is not much, but believe me when you pair it with a sale you are going to be buying things for usually half off the retail price. Here is a list of my personal opinion musts. Things I have changed and have seen my couponing friends change that we have had much success with. I will be breaking down each point for the next several weeks.
When you start couponing you have to change your mindset.
It’s not just about using coupons it is about living within your means and saving money on everything you can.
Here are my Top Ten You Need to Know: ( now remember each of these will be talked about in more detail each week!)
1. You have to only buy things that are on SALE or clearance!! ( But I need milk and that’s not on sale.. or I need shavers and those are not on sale… I have an answer to those questions!!! 🙂
2. To maximize a coupons value you MUST pair it with a sale.
3. Shop at a store that DOUBLES coupons, but also do not be a store snob!
4. Only buy what you need.
5. Only buy a 3-6 month supply for your family, unless something is FREE or insanely cheap.
6. Prepare your own meals and plan a meal menu using what you have or what will be on sale.
7. Take advantage of FREE samples. When you request a sample you usually get a coupon with it. Grab coupons from everywhere!
8. Only buy what you can afford. We live in a society that finances EVERYTHING... ( lots more to come on this)
9. Give back. You’re probably saying how can I give to others when I can barely survive myself, but trust me giving back increases your wealth. I have had those exact same thoughts as well which is why I will be going into more detail on another post!”
10. Be patient. Live simply. Live Happily. Completely give up the thoughts along the lines of “I need it now.” ” I want it now.” ” How can I get this right now.”
* I am not an expert in this. These are my personal viewpoints from my own trials and successes with saving money. I am a stay at home mom living on one income with 2 children. But if you want a more professional life changing experience I highly recommed Dave Ramseys Financial Peace class. Dave Ramsey truly changed our outlook on finances and living within our means. I mean seeking a deal is in our blood of course, but as far as saving money, giving money, no debt, that was a whole new language.
There is a class coming up for Dave Ramsey’s Financial peace at Northgate Free Methodist on September 17. You can get more details here or e-mail [email protected] with questions!
