If you’re a Costco member, you may have noticed that the Kirkland Signature honey has been pulled from the shelves. Don’t worry, it’s not gone for good! The honey is being re labeled to ensure that it meets the high standards set by Costco.
You may have gotten an email from Costco like the one below if you’ve purchased their Kirkland Signature Local Honey from 2019 to 2022.

Costco’s Transparency Shows Their Commitment To It’s Members
“It has come to our attention that while the product is 100% pure honey, some of the product may contain non-local honey.”
This Honey is our “Southeast” blend, you may have others like Northeast, Southwest, or by State. It varies store to store, and they only carry a select few online.
Kirkland Signature Raw Unfiltered Honey
I dug a little deeper from their excellent Customer Service Chat online.
I asked: ” How was Costco made aware that Honey was blended and not from local sources?”
Christine: “We have partnerships with beekeepers and with that we were able to verify it was not local and it was misleading to our members.”
“We would need to change it to make it “local”.
“We would partner with those local beekeepers to be able to provide this product to our members.”
Christine:
“We take these issues very seriously and our members’ trust in Costco and the products we sell is extremely important to us. Upon learning of this issue, we promptly removed all impacted product from our warehouses.
We notified all members who purchased this product between January 2019 and August 2022 with instructions on how to obtain a full refund.”
As to who those beekeepers are, I’m not sure. But, they are doing their job in protecting actual local beekeepers and keeping Costco’s vendors accountable.
And Costco is doing theirs in protecting their members and trying to hold a lot of these “Honey Packers” accountable.
I reviewed Kirkland Signature Local Honey on my website: TheHoneyReview.com. I mentioned how it wasn’t local long before Costco’s official statement. And who actually makes Kirkland Signature Local Honey.
It seems other beekeepers took notice as well.
